Early Detection Saves Lives

Early detection is paramount in the successful management of cancer. Identifying the disease in its initial stages often leads to significantly better outcomes, simpler treatment pathways, and higher survival rates.

At Chalk Stream Medical, we combine compassionate GP care with the latest advancements in medical technology. We are proud to offer sophisticated screening options that go beyond standard testing, including groundbreaking blood tests that can detect signs of cancer before symptoms appear.

Screens for 70+ Cancer Types

The Trucheck Intelli blood test detects circulating tumour cells, screening for over 70 types of solid cancer from a single blood draw.

Trucheck Intelli: Advanced Multi-Cancer Screening

We are one of the select practices to offer the Trucheck Intelli test. This is a revolutionary blood test capable of detecting up to 70 types of solid cancer tumours.

How it works: Unlike traditional screening which often relies on imaging or invasive biopsies, Trucheck Intelli looks for Circulating Tumour Cells (CTCs) in the bloodstream. These are cells that have broken away from a tumour and entered the circulation.

  • Broad Scope: Screens for cancers including melanoma, breast, prostate, lung, bowel, and many others.
  • High Accuracy: Validation data suggests high sensitivity for detecting these cancers with a low false-positive rate, giving you confidence in the result.
  • Non-Invasive: Requires only a simple blood draw.

This test is included as standard in our Platinum Health Check.

Traditional Tumour Markers

In addition to advanced CTC screening, we utilise established tumour marker blood tests. These measure specific proteins in the blood that can be elevated in the presence of certain cancers.

Common markers we test for include:

  • PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen): For prostate health.
  • CA-125: Associated with ovarian cancer.
  • CA 19-9: Associated with pancreatic and bowel cancers.
  • CEA: A general marker often associated with bowel cancer.

While these markers are useful, they require expert interpretation by a doctor, as levels can sometimes be raised by non-cancerous conditions.

Expert Guidance & Support

Cancer screening is a powerful tool, but it requires careful consideration. A positive result can be anxious, and a “clear” result is not a guarantee of perfect health.

That is why we do not offer these tests as “off-the-shelf” products. Every screening is preceded by a consultation with one of our experienced GPs. We take the time to:

  1. Discuss your family history and personal risk factors.
  2. Explain exactly what the tests can and cannot tell you.
  3. Ensure you understand the implications of the results.

If a result requires further investigation, we will guide you immediately towards the appropriate specialists or scans.
