Doctor-Led Weight Management
Maintaining a healthy weight is one of the most powerful steps you can take for your long-term health. It significantly reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and certain cancers, while also alleviating pressure on joints and improving energy levels.
However, we understand that for many, losing weight through diet and exercise alone can be an incredibly difficult and frustrating cycle. At Chalk Stream Medical, we approach weight loss as a medical issue, not a test of willpower.
GP-Led & Medically Supervised
Every prescription is issued and monitored by an experienced GP with regular follow-ups to ensure your safety and progress.
Our Approach
Our Medical Weight Loss service is fully GP-led, ensuring that your journey is safe, effective, and tailored to your unique biology. We do not offer “quick fixes”; instead, we provide a supportive, long-term partnership to help you achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
We combine evidence-based medical treatments with lifestyle advice to target the physiological drivers of weight gain.
Medical Treatments (GLP-1 Agonists)
Advancements in medical science have provided effective tools to support weight loss. Following a thorough consultation, our doctors may prescribe GLP-1 receptor agonists (such as Semaglutide) if clinically appropriate.
These medications, often administered via a weekly injection, mimic a natural hormone in the body that regulates appetite. They help to:
- Reduce hunger and cravings.
- Increase feelings of fullness (satiety).
- Regulate blood sugar levels.
Important Regulatory Notice: These treatments are Prescription Only Medicines (POMs). They cannot be dispensed without a consultation and are not suitable for everyone. They are prescribed strictly within UK clinical guidelines for patients meeting specific BMI (Body Mass Index) criteria and are subject to your medical history.
Your Journey With Us
We prioritise patient safety above all else. Weight loss medication is most effective and safe when monitored closely by a doctor.
1. Initial Consultation (30 mins)
You will meet with one of our experienced GPs to discuss your weight history, lifestyle, and goals. We will perform a physical examination and review your medical history to ensure treatment is safe for you. Note: Recent blood tests may be required to check kidney, liver, and thyroid function before starting treatment.
2. Treatment Plan
If you are eligible, your doctor will issue a prescription and explain exactly how to administer the medication. We will also discuss sustainable lifestyle changes—nutrition, sleep, and movement—which remain the foundation of long-term success.
3. Ongoing Monitoring
We do not simply issue a prescription and leave you to it. We require regular follow-ups (usually monthly in the beginning) to:
- Monitor your weight loss progress.
- Adjust medication dosage safely.
- Manage any potential side effects.
- Provide encouragement and accountability.
Eligibility
Our service is designed for patients who have a BMI of 30 or above (or 27+ with weight-related health conditions). We cannot treat patients with a history of eating disorders, certain thyroid conditions, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
