GP-Led Mental Health Support
Your mental well-being is just as important as your physical health. At Chalk Stream Medical, we provide a safe, unhurried, and non-judgmental environment where you can discuss your feelings openly.
Both Dr Camilla Nuttall and Dr Jamie Coutts Donald support patients with mental health concerns as part of their everyday general practice. As GPs, anxiety, depression, stress, and burnout are conditions they manage regularly. Dr Coutts Donald also brings a specialist interest in psychosis, having trained in Psychiatry (including both child and adult services) before qualifying as a General Practitioner.
Psychiatry-Trained GP
Dr Coutts Donald trained in both child and adult psychiatry before qualifying as a GP, with a specialist interest in psychosis and complex mental health presentations.
What We Offer
Unlike a standard 10-minute appointment, our dedicated Mental Health Consultations are 40 minutes long. This extended time allows us to take a detailed history, understand the root causes of your distress, and formulate a robust management plan.
As a medical practice, we focus on the clinical assessment, diagnosis, and medical management of mental health conditions.
Conditions We Treat
Our experienced GPs are highly confident in supporting and treating a wide range of concerns, including:
- Mood Disorders: Depression, anxiety, and bipolar affective disorder.
- Psychosis: Assessment and medical management of psychotic symptoms, including referral pathways to specialist psychiatric services where appropriate.
- Bipolar Disorder: Comprehensive support for bipolar affective disorder, including mood stabilisation, medication review, and long-term management planning.
- Stress & Burnout: Managing the impact of work or life pressures on your health.
- Insomnia: Medical management of sleep disturbances.
- Neurodiversity: Initial assessment and support for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Addiction: Support for alcohol or substance misuse.
- Trauma: Medical support for PTSD and bereavement.
- Other Conditions: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), phobias, and eating disorders.
Our Approach
We believe in a holistic path to recovery. While medication can be a vital tool for many patients, we also look at lifestyle factors—such as sleep, diet, and exercise—that play a crucial role in mental stability.
Your doctor will work with you to develop a personalised plan that may include:
- Medical Diagnosis: A clear understanding of your condition.
- Prescribing: Initiation and review of medication (e.g., antidepressants or anxiolytics) where clinically indicated.
- Referrals: Access to our robust network of private psychiatrists and specialists if secondary care is required.
