Men’s Health
Men tend to leave things. A symptom gets ignored until it is hard to ignore, and by then it is a bigger problem than it needed to be.
You can raise anything here, and there is time to do it properly. Men’s health appointments are usually with Dr James Coutts Donald, who came into general practice from psychiatry.
Male GP Available
If you would rather see a male doctor, Dr James Coutts Donald takes men’s health appointments.
What We Cover
Prostate and Urinary Health
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. We assess urinary symptoms such as going more often or struggling to start, and monitor prostate health.
- PSA testing: prostate specific antigen blood tests.
- Physical examination: done properly, and without ceremony.
- Urine testing: bladder health and infection.
Heart Health
Heart disease is still one of the biggest causes of illness in men, and most of the risk is visible years in advance.
- Blood pressure and pulse.
- Cholesterol: a full breakdown, not just a total figure.
- ECG: resting heart rhythm.
- Lifestyle: practical help with weight and exercise.
Testosterone and Hormones
Low testosterone can affect men at any age, causing tiredness, low mood, low libido and loss of muscle. We test hormone levels and thyroid function to work out what is actually behind the symptoms, rather than assuming.
Sexual Health and Erectile Dysfunction
None of this is easy to bring up, and none of it is unusual. We deal with:
- Erectile dysfunction: looking for the physical or psychological cause, and treating it.
- STI screening: confidential testing and treatment.
- Premature ejaculation: advice and treatment options.
Stress and Mental Health
A demanding job and a family at home take a toll. Dr Coutts Donald trained in psychiatry, so this is well-covered ground here:
- Work stress and burnout.
- Anxiety and depression.
- Insomnia and poor sleep.
Men’s Health Screening
For a full picture of where you stand, the Gold Health Check is the one most men choose.
