When Your Child Is Unwell

A fever that will not come down, a rash you do not like the look of, a cough that has gone on too long. What you want is an answer today, from a doctor you trust.

We see children of all ages, from newborns to teenagers, usually the same day. It is a quieter setting than a busy waiting room, and there is time for your child to settle before anyone examines them.

Newborns to Teenagers

Thirty-minute appointments, so there is time to take a full history from you and examine your child without rushing them.

A Practice That Suits Children

We know the doctor’s can be a frightening place when you are small.

The waiting area and consulting rooms are warm rather than clinical, with books and toys to hand. Both our GPs are used to examining children, and will take it at your child’s pace.

Common Childhood Problems

We assess and treat the usual range of childhood illness, including:

  • Infections: ear infections, tonsillitis, chest infections and urinary tract infections.
  • Fevers: assessing a child with a high temperature.
  • Skin: eczema, rashes and mole checks.
  • Digestive problems: colic, reflux, constipation and tummy pain.
  • Allergies: hay fever and allergy assessment.
  • Development: if you are worried your child is not hitting their milestones.

Teenagers

Teenagers have their own concerns, and often want to raise them without a parent in the room. We can arrange that. We help with:

  • Skin: acne treatment and the confidence that goes with it.
  • Mental health: anxiety, exam stress and low mood.
  • Sexual health: confidential advice, contraception and HPV questions.

ADHD and Autism

Dr Coutts Donald trained in psychiatry, including child services, and Dr Nuttall has long experience in family medicine. Between them they can offer a starting point on neurodiversity.

A formal diagnosis needs a specialist multi-disciplinary assessment, but we can:

  • Screen and talk through the symptoms you are seeing.
  • Help you work out where to go next.
  • Refer you to paediatricians or psychiatrists we trust for a formal diagnosis.
