Restore Your Hearing & Comfort
Ear wax (cerumen) is a natural substance produced to protect the ear canal. However, a build-up can sometimes become impacted or pressed against the eardrum, leading to uncomfortable symptoms and temporary hearing loss.
While many people try to remove wax at home, using cotton buds or other objects can often push the wax deeper, potentially causing damage or infection. At Chalk Stream Medical, we provide a professional, medical environment to resolve these issues safely.
Symptoms of Blocked Ears
You may benefit from an ear wax removal appointment if you are experiencing:
- Hearing Loss: A sudden or gradual reduction in hearing, often described as feeling “muffled.”
- Earache: A feeling of fullness, pressure, or pain inside the ear.
- Tinnitus: Ringing or buzzing noises in the ear.
- Dizziness: Mild vertigo or loss of balance.
Doctor-Led Procedure
Unlike high-street clinics, our ear wax removal is carried out by an experienced GP who inspects the health of your ear canal and eardrum before and after.
Our Service: Ear Syringing
We offer a safe ear syringing service carried out by our experienced General Practitioners.
Unlike high-street clinics where procedures might be performed by technicians, our service is doctor-led. This allows us to inspect the health of your ear canal and eardrum (tympanic membrane) before and after the procedure to ensure there are no signs of infection or other underlying issues.
Essential Preparation
To ensure the procedure is successful and comfortable, it is vital that the wax is softened before your appointment. Hard wax is difficult to remove and can make the procedure painful.
Instructions: Please apply warm olive oil or pharmacy-grade ear wax drops (such as sodium bicarbonate drops) to the affected ear(s) for approximately one week prior to your visit. This softens the wax, allowing for easier and safer removal.
Pricing
We offer a standalone appointment specifically for this procedure.
