Joints, Backs and Injuries

A knee that has gone, a back that will not settle, or arthritis that has crept up on you over a couple of years. Whatever it is, it tends to stop you doing the thing you most want to be doing.

Our doctors are active themselves, between rugby, motorsport, skiing and running, so the frustration of being sidelined is familiar.

Fast Access to Scans

We can arrange an MRI, X-ray or ultrasound through our private imaging partners without the wait.

The Assessment

Musculoskeletal problems need hands on them. Our 30-minute appointments leave time to:

  • Take the history: how you did it, or how the pain has behaved over time.
  • Examine the joint: range of movement, stability and strength.
  • Work out what it is costing you: at work, at home, and in whatever you do for exercise.

What We Assess

  • Joint pain: osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout and general wear.
  • Sports injuries: sprains, strains, ligament damage and tendon problems such as tennis elbow and Achilles tendonitis.
  • Back and neck: lower back pain, sciatica and neck strain.
  • Soft tissue: bursitis and muscle tears.

Scans

One of the real advantages of going private is not waiting months for a scan. If we need to see inside the joint, we can arrange:

  • MRI: soft tissue, ligaments and discs.
  • X-ray: bone and fractures.
  • Ultrasound: tendons and muscles, assessed while they move.

We work with local private imaging centres, so the scan and the results come back quickly.

Treatment and Referral

Once we know what we are dealing with, we will work out the recovery plan with you.

Managing it without surgery A good many problems settle with the right advice, the right pain relief and a sensible amount of rest. We can prescribe anti-inflammatories or stronger analgesia to get you through the acute phase.

Physiotherapy and podiatry Rehab is usually what fixes it in the end. We refer to local physiotherapists and podiatrists we rate, for gait analysis or a strengthening programme.

Orthopaedic surgeons If you need an operation or a specialist opinion, we can refer you to orthopaedic consultants in Hampshire or London, choosing one who does a lot of your particular joint.
